About Their sound is a unique mingling of polar influence: memorable, lulling melodies over driving rythyms reminiscent of Coldplay, with a darker emotive spin similar to Radiohead or Lovedrug. Nautilus formed two years ago when guitarist and lead vocalist Michael Weeks and drummer Andrew Walker began to collaborate. Soon after, lead guitarist Lee Young joined the group allowing the band to develop a more expressive and texturally interesting sound. But Nautilus truly coalesced when bassist Matt DeRubertis entered the mix. A welcome addition , Matt's thoughtful, but unobtrusive style brought a maturity and versatility to the group.

In their short time of development, Nautilus has achieved a sound unique to the Cleveland area. Their sound is amiable, full of instantly memorable moments. But the group doesn't settle with simple rock songs and swooning themes. With one hand on simplicity, and the other on nuance, Nautilus weaves catchy tunes through thoughtful transformations. The vocal and lead interplay reinforces a tension and longing expressed in the lyrics. The bass and drums offer a rythmically agressive, sometimes unrestrained edge. The songs are inward, but not weepy or self- interested. Without being laborious, each track overcomes the youthful tendency toward impatience. On the contrary, Nautilus sculpts their songs to unfold with a breath and mounting intensity that is a simple but convincing.

If the speed in which Nautilus has achieved an ambitious and unique sound is any testament to their potential, the future for this Cleveland-area band is bright.
