About My second shot of the Bishop Rock lighthouse off the Isles of Scilly, taken an hour later after it went dark. Sea mist had spread across the distant rocks that are illuminated by the lighthouse's light as it sweeps across the sea. A 3 minute exposure produced the star trails that look light meteors pelting the distant light.

haunting a sense of being at the edge of the universe.

Barry that is a great shot. Really well executed I must say. Even down to the positioning, you managed to get close to the North star which will definatley help with the composition. Plus teh foreground is perfectly exposed too. You should post this - I can see it being popular.
Cant wait to give this technique a go myself.

Hi Shane, yes I was surprised at the length of the star trails too. I took a 45 minute exposure the night before - see attached and didn't expect trails this long from 3 minutes but couldn't risk a longer exposure as the light from the lighthouse was already saturating the film.

beatiful technique and imagery - I want to try this kind of shot myself but havent had a chance. This winter for sure though. Interesting how long the streaks are for three minutes ...

Awesome. I was wondering what those "stripes" were, but that was before I read the explanation. Brilliant capture!
