About
The month is February. The location is the Sea of Japan. This was the first calm day in 22 days since leaving Sasebo, Japan. Course: 110T Speed: 12 knots. Our patrol companion, the USS John R. Craig (DD-885) is coming alongside so we can swap movies and give her 40 gallons of ice cream. After seeing the same movies for the umpteenth time this is a very big event for us. The exchange will take about half an hour, but it will soon be dark and camera flashes are not permitted topside after dark. The photo is in 35mm half frame format (18mm x 24mm) using an original Olympus Pen camera. The actual shutter speed was 1/50th. PS used for cropping.
Love the composition here,Geaorge, and the grainy light! Those rays look like they have been planned to fall so geometrically, but of course it's just an impression.I live the metallic shine of the sea! made this one a favourite! Regards, YT
The Olympus Pen was the first of a number of follow-on variants using 35mm film in the single, or half frame format. The negative is 18mm x 24mm vice the standard 24mm x 36mm. You get twice as many exposures per roll, i.e. a 36 exposure roll of film will give you 72 exposures. These cameras were built and marketed from the 60's into the early 80's. They are a lot of fun to use and are quite rugged. I'm still using the cameras I bought in the 1968-1972 period.
This really caught my eye, even as a thumnail. I love the composition and the graininess here, there is foreground interest, beautifull lighting and great lines silhouettes etc. Wonderful!
