About One of the planets more primitive plants. Not sure they occur elsewhere.
They grow taller but thought this quiite lush, I think it's two specimens growing together.

Wonderful tree, Ian, and you captured some terrific detail, but the lack of contrast makes it a little difficult to decipher from its background. Have you tried tweaking the levels in PS?

two specimens growing together Ian ? sex in the vegetable world - wonderful romantic notion. I think I saw this very tree recently in the botanical gardens in Lisbon or at least a very close relative... I really prefer your previous color interpretation, (even though this IS one of my preferred tones). But here, rather then enriching what?s there, the darkness weakens the lushness.

I guess it comes down to what the purpose of the photo is. To me this plays as documentary, maybe because I find the exotic (to me) nature of this interesting. As such I think it is good to show an objective view (maybe showing a little ground in front) and to create the illusion of a undeveloped environment without too much distraction. It is also visually interesting and to me that is the clincher for a "documentary" shot

Good point to remember Stefan, thanks. Here I'm mostly using burn to reduce distraction from the bushes bottom of the frame which seemed a bit hard texture wise.
Thought the blurry details of the grass clumps at the back were a good thing. If I'd anticipated that may have walked a bit to put more in. There's also a slightly distracting road or clay bank or something I couls have dealt to with a different angle too.

it seems that is texture and not value that sets it apart from the background.

I know that plant. No it doesn't curl up to the touch. Could eat me if it did. Lovely thought to stroke these trees and have them respond like a cat though.
