Beautiful shot and treatment. Use the layers, you'll gain much more subtle control over your effects and details, though not an issue here. Really simple actually. Don't be afraid to get in there and play!

Hi James, This image was brougnt into P.S. 6 for subtle enhancements. I'm not to proffecient with p.s. I don't even use layers, so forgive me if I don't recall all the steps. I believe I did a freehand lasso around the girl, gaussian blurred the background a tad, then went into Filter-Render-Lighting effects -default setting which created a sepia color and slight vignette, lastly unharp mask. I recalle trying to decide if I should lasso around the shadow in front of her dress to the right, I kept it to dress, therefore the shadow went out of focus even more. You can see where I didn't pay attention to here right arm and pony tail as far as placing the lasso. I'l try to locate the orig. scan on Kodak PhotoCD and repost.

This really is amazing...as the others have said. The softness of the bricks and sharpness of the dress really add a lot to the photo.

Yeah, the difference in focus is almost surreal. It, in and of itself, almost becomes the focal point for the subject. Unique and intriguing. I like it.

Very interesting how everything else here is out of focus except for the girl. Including everything before and after her including that which should be in focus at her feet. Nice technique here. PS? I love it. James

Candid or staged? It has the feeling of a movie still (not necessarily a bad thing).
