Hi Emji, nice to meet you! Thanks for the square crop! I thought of the square too, and I like it square. Square is my preferred format, unless I can't help it for one reason or another. Lovely pumpkin, great light and fantastic rich colors.I don't see anything strange about the composition and your crop is just fine.

Ina - looking through your portfolio I think you have quite a distinctive style, and I like it. Often with lovely tones and lots of sharp shadows, it's really nice.

I find still life and architecture rewarding, in that I don't have to ask permission to take pictures. Amazing composition! Ina, you are just plain good. A simple subject, photographed endlessly at this time of year by everyone and all his friends, and here you have created a complete standout beauty. Fabulous light, color, and clarity. The shadowed background makes the central pumkin pop off the screen, and the stem (handle?) is so strange and cool!
The framing of this image is perfect. I see in the comments a lot of debate about the cropping, which is SO great! I learn so much from this site! But one thing to keep in mind is that pumpkins are big and fat and heavy. Your original crop shows that so very very well. Perhaps because of the dark background and the large round shape that the background accentuates? I think it's one of the reasons it works so well for me. You got it!

Thanks for trusting my judgement, Ina...don't know if I deserve that or not, but...I still think your choice of cropping works very well, and I agree that the darkness adds to the balance of this shot. If you cropped some off the top and right I think it would still work, but I don't think it would be better.
as for the Jeopardy question...I can't even buzz in! Wish I could :(((

Thanks Daniel :) They are here all along the roads, in stalls, with corn, gourds and fall foliage. As a matter of fact, I couldn't ignore the red maples anymore, I took pictures of foliage, might post one or two.

Kathy, re: composition, I trust your judgement, but I always love to see different crops. I tried this one in a square, but it wasn't interesting. I thought more dark backgound acted as a negative space counterbalance to the brightness. Maybe cropping a bit off the top & right?
