Thanks james, I do only handhold, I dont like the resrictions of tri or monopods, The lenses I use are the lighest of the canon L telephotos, the zoom is 100-400 and is only 3.2lbs, and my prime is a 400mm F/4 DO which weighs 3.8, so they are not very heavy and allow me to handhold all day, and panning once you get used to a lens as nikon makes simular ones becomes very easy over time, but it is that initial time that most give up..

Marcus, your in flight captures have always fascinated me. They are always spot on in every aspect. This is no exception. Perfect detail and exposure. I realize that at 1/2000 sec a big lens can be handheld, but is this the technique you use? Or are you using a tripod with a ballhead and panning? Hope you don't mind the questions but it is a technique I would love to try and master and don't know where to start.

Your work is just the best. I have said this before and I will say it again. You are probably the best bird photographer (especially in flight) that I have seen across the internet. There are many great bird photographers all focusing on different forms of bird photography....but in general you win...hands down.

GREAT capture of a bird flying. To get it sharp when it?s flying and having big lenses can?t be the easiest ting - even thought there?s tripod?s, but they are so boring to use!
