Being there at sunrise or sunset, you can hardly miss. But mid-day, the lighting from above just about kills everything. Stay in camp and have a cold one.

the desert must be such an inspiring place to take pictures, but also very challenging - it must be so easy to get flat, uninteresting images....this is superb

This is early morning, but the effect is the same. Sand in noon light is the most boring stuff on earth (!) but low-angle light brings it alive. Come to think of it, that's true of most every subject.

THIS is pretty awesome. You shoot in a lot of the same light that I do, early evening(?). I really like the shadows cast by the late sun. This is a perfect example of why.

This is a super shot, Tom. I'm surprised there aren't more comments. It's a little remindful of those vases where the person can be seen in the profile of the vase or in the profile of negative space. Nice!
