I would call this a happy accident. The colors glow against that darker background and are not "in your face". The polarizer gives the leaves a nice rich look - a lot of depth - nice composition. I do like the two small parts of orange leaves in the top right. Very peaceful shot. Jan

I just use a UV filter anymore with mostly hoods on my lens. I did buy a monopod so I'll probably try my polizer again around water with it like that. I use a lot of slower shutter speeds now and its just kind of hard to hand held with a polizer on. Nice composition and image.
