Thanks Kes.
We are still married after all these years. Two boys in University.

They claim to hate it when we point our cameras at them... but we know they really love it ;)

Saw this in the little random shots column, Andre.

Wow. Excellent.

Interestinly, I too have experience photographing a supermodel. And again, the similarites in the look...she might kiss you, she might hit you...bring back, uh, multiple memories. :) :) :)

Thanks so much for going back in my portfolio to find this one and comment on it Srna!
Here is a nice coincidence. My last post includes this image. Look in the top left corner of this image and you will see a framed copy of this shot :)

Thanks again Shane,
I think it's great when people go back deeper into our portfolios to find an image they like. It can be such a pleasent surprise to see one pop up again that you have forgotten about for a few months.

Andre,

I love the perspective used for this image. Great shot and expression on your model.

Thanks Manu,
I have quite a few old negatives that I've kept. Some have been printed and even framed. Many others were only developed on contact sheets because of the lack of time to print 30 years ago. It is very enjoyable to be able to just spend a couple of hours every now and then hunting for an old forgotten treasure. I recommend everyone try it. It is very satisfying bringing old stuff back with a new energy!

Hi Mark,
My two boys are at an age now where they actually are starting to appreciate some of the things their old man can do. I wrote down everything I know about photography too... on the back of a matchbook :)

I know how you feel. I still have my first Minolta SLR, and some others from "that era." Some of my best shots came from it. We're one of the last few people who can still print from a wet darkroom. Your son doesn't appreciate the knowledge you're passing on now, but he will later on. I wrote pretty much everything I know in notebooks.

Thanks for the nice comments on these shots Mark!
Yes, I still have my Nikkormat in perfect working order. The last time I used it was a couple of years ago to shoot my youngest son's prom photos and some auto races.
My son took over the camera for a while to use while taking a photography course a couple of years ago. That gave me an excuse to set up my darkroom again and get back into photography myself. I gave him a lot of probably "unwanted" advice while he was on the course, in the darkroom and on shoots. But he put up with me. I've got to admit, some of the shots he / we took turned out really well :)
I doubt that I will ever get rid of that camera. As I've said here before, It was outside of a car one of the first major purchase of any kind that I ever paid for completely on my own.

You have that style down, Andre. So does she. Do you still shoot with the Nikkormat ftn?

Hi Carlheinz,
Thanks again, I did both B&W and sepia for this. Actually, the eyes are much better in the B&W and some other aspects of the B&W are probably nicer too. I'll attach the B&W to this, for a little different view. See what you think.

B&W Version

Carlheinz Bayer   {K:14220} 11/28/2005
Has a great feel, well composed, great expression and I don't mind that little bit of shadows. Is that really bothering? C'mon!!!
I think I would prefer the plain B&W version over the toned one.

Hi Thilo,

Yes....Any lesser description from me than Supermodel,...and I will pay for it one way or another :)

I think this is another example of a shot that works well in the centre.

Hi Andre,

I know that favourite super model thing very well ;-)

a great shot with the high perspective, the centering, the widescreen framing and the hairs! This is 70s for sure!

best wishes,
Thilo

Thanks Mervo,
Fashion is definitely like that. It's funny how some eras seem more ridiculous than others. What goes around comes around I guess. Some really great shots from the 20's and thirties can look like they were taken last week. A great looking model will always be a great looking model :)
I can't wait for the giant shoulderpads and big, frizzy hair look to come back :)

Nice angle and choice of toning Andre, I like this and the hair is a give away although what goes around in the fashion department seems to come back around 30 years later! Keep them coming, it's great to see back in time!

Hi Louise,
The hair is a dead give-away!
Thanks for visiting.

Thanks Mirek,
I'm pretty sure you are right about this being in mid-day sun. When I first started working on it I did it in standard greyscale. The image looked nice, but I was very consious of the shadow and bright area on her face. It is not quite as noticable in this sepia version, but I was pretty sure someone would point it out :)

I was going to say this looks like it was taken in the 70s! Great shot!

She is a very beautiful woman and You did very good job photographing her. The angle is very unusual for a portrait shot but works well here. The shadows on her face are a bit too sharp, I guess it was shot in direct sun.
