About: LaPorte first picked up a camera in 1976 and has been hooked ever since. In the past three years, she has been focusing more on nature photography, including coastal plants and has contributed images to several publications, including a publication (in press) about Great Lakes coastal plants to be published by the University of Michigan Press.
By day, LaPorte is communications director for Michigan Sea Grant (see miseagrant.umich.edu) and the University of Michigan School of Natural Resources and has nearly 25 years in communications, including managing multi-disciplinary teams, strategic planning, publication design, marketing and media relations.
