About This is the third of a (4) four part sequence from Icer Air 2005. 200 tons of snow were brought into downtown San Francisco for a snowboarding & skiing competition on otherwise dry but very steep city streets. This is one of the few sequence shots that I have that shows the rider's launch, airborne acrobatics and landing. I'll post the remaining image later this evening.

Ann I should. Glad you enjoyed this sequence. I was probably in retrospect too close to the action, but I never flinched. I could tell I was in the clear from his trajectory. It shouldn't be a surprise but I felt wind on my face as he sailed by. This was an exceptionally fun event to photograph.

Kambiz the site for the event is:
http://www.icerair.com/2005/index.html

I was sitting on the knuckle when I took this. The knuckle being the top of the snow bank where the snowboarders and skiers land. All photographers were moved due to a snowboarder landing on a volunteer just before this rider jumeped. I was the most forward facing photographer at this point in time.

Very interesting catch. Where were you at the time of clicking your camera?
Is there any website of that event?

Jim:

Glad I added you as an associate. Nice series of shots, but this really takes you into the action, with the floating/flying of the boarder and the look on the crowd. The details are perfect - the accidental "10" card, the people straining to look, the lack of snow, the warm tones.

I've been watching your latest series and was going to wait until you posted the last one before I made any comments but when I saw this one I just had say a few words about this image.

WOW Jim!! A fantastic frozen action shot. This would make an excellent ad for the company who makes those boards as the name is right there at eye's focal point. The fact that it's upside down only makes it more "now" and artsy. The more I look at it the more I can see this on an advertising poster or billboard. Maybe you should approach the company with some of these photos. Super shot.

Cheers - Ann :)
