Overall tonality is a little flat. For a digital image, there is no excuse for not going in and "tweeking" this just a bit. There is interesting detail in the marble and texture in the shadows that might lend to a little more 3D to punch it up some. Like the placement of person at top against large steps. Perhaps shooting this at a different time of day that lends itself to some variety of lighting. Would also like to see more (minimal lighting) detail in person. Perhaps some backlighting against black cape. Give it a 5+ for effort and creativity.

Hey John, Interesting shot you got here. Like the PS FX! Was it a recent shot. Looking forward to going there soon to see the spring flowers blooming. Take care. LD

Thank you all for the nice comments. I shot around 8 images of this little boy sitting (or should I say squirming) around with his pup. Managed this (my favorite of all image) in a brief moment when he and the puppy sat still for a second....and then he and his family got up and were gone. Wished I had asked if they had an email address so I could have sent them copies (which I almost ALWAYS do) when I know I've got some great shots of kids. Best to you all!

This little spot is not visable off Highway 1 but marked as a "tourist" spot to see in the brochures for Carmel and Monterey. The water source is from the mountains on the coast (originating from a stream or river) somewhere up in northern CA.

Dan, thanks for the comment. Wish I WOULD have had more image to the right. It was just one of those "Shoot it and be happy with what you got" shots. I sat for almost 2 hours in this spot that afternoon and watched the geese and ducks land and take off. This little girl really took her time with her ascend. All the geese are getting ready to do their nesting there out on the island in the middle of the lagoon. It's a wonderful place to visit if you're ever in the state visiting. Take Care

Ben....so true...so true! I still see things chewed up in my house that pip got to when I had her! It's kinda like looking at a found toy of one of your children now grow up. I still tear up when I go into my bathroom and see the leg of my expensive rattan cabinet all chewed up at the bottom that she got to...."oh well" I say... It's just a "thing" and her love was more precious to me than "ANY THING"

Chelsea,
Thanks for the nice comment. Sounds like you understand perfectly! I'm acutally attending an open house at the rehab center in a few weeks where I took Pip. Hopefully they can give me an update on her whereabouts and how she's doing. Wonder if they remember you somehow in their little minds???? Kinda wish I could find out exactly where they took her and be able to go visit to see if she would come running up to me like that "lion" did for those 2 guys from England. I miss her SO much! Take Care!

Marcio,
What a fabulous shot of this bamboo garden!!!. WOW Color and detail are magnificent. I was just in an area like this at one of my local botanical gardens but the bamboo there wasn't quite this large. Really great shot!

Pip Update 2009. Pip was rehabilitated with a group of 5 other ground squirrels and was released back to nature in January of this year. He turned out to be a she and will (with luck) be a mom sometime this spring. Still missed terribly, I've now adopted 2 baby rats named Ginger & CoCo!

Brigitte,
Thanks for the comment. I'm using a fixed wideangle Olympus digital, but I do have a uv filter for a little haze reduction.

Thank you all for your nice comments. If you get the opportunity to get up to this little known spot in Pearblossom, you won't be disappointed. The same day my mom shot a bald eagle swooping down to catch a fish there. The entire area of the back of the dam is covered with trees like this in the water. Best to you all this new year!

Tim, one of my favorites from this series. I've actually been to Jasper National Park back in the 70's. Hoping to someday get back to Lake Louise in Baniff also. Love the minimal lighting on this shot. Just a spark of what seems to be the begining of a glorious evening sunset. Definitely a good representation of how beautiful Canada is! Another WINNER!

Thanks for the critique Tim. Wish I had a ND with me. These days I'm just shooting with my fixed lens little Olympus Digital. In dire need of a step down ring to use the 100 or so filters from my Nikons that are currently collecting dust in my camera bag! Hope you've been traveling lots of beautiful places. Anxiously awaiting new images so we ALL can live vicariously through your imagery! Take care my friend!

Guido,
Thanks for the comments on my snowy landscapes. Looks a BIT colder where you are. This is a wonderful shot. Amazing how the snow has turned to "snowflake" patterns on the metal fence. Wonderful detail.
