Oh my God, this is a really hard shot to get unless you know what you're doing....clearly you're an expert!! I love the sharpness of the main element of the image with the background slightly out of focus. Absolutely superb & I will be trying to get shots like this one. Impressed...I say again SUPERB!!!

Hi ken,
thanks for the comment and the recommendation. I've done the cropping on the printed image. I'm in Limerick/Clare area by the way. I've seen your photos already and find some of them to be spectacular. for a fella who claims to know nothing you've definitely got the most important element of a photographer -- a good eye! Slán anois!

Hi Jeff, this is really cool. I bet what happened was you stopped the car, got out...realised the was no camera on the seat beside you. stopped the next car that came along the way and forced them to hand over their camera until you took the picture, then took the film from it, gave them back their camera and let them drive off into the distant yonder!!! Oh, you used digital. Damn. OK, you stopped, got out took the photos and got back into the car again! This photo has inspired me to post my one and only cloud photo.

Hey Neil,
your sharpened version of my shot looks brilliant! Thanks for doing it and commenting. I suppose I should have used some common sense and taken a few shots of the scene under different conditions.
Thanks again and best regards to you and Switzerland!

Hi Jeff,
straight away, I think this is a good B & W photo, though I see that you alsohave a colour version of it on your portfolio. For me, both formats work with this back-alley scene. However, I'd have to say that I like the punchiness of the colour photo just a tad more. Mind you all your photos are great so my having a preference for one over another is a difficult thing to do!!!Thanks for posting the photo and continued success and enjoyment from it all!!!

Dear Robert,
what you wrote about my photo is such a lovely complement I feel obliged to thank you. I went photo crazy at the wedding and actually got some really, really nice memories of the day for my friends. To be honest I was delighted to get any photos I was so nervous! It was my first time for a wedding but it turned out to be great fun. Here's hoping more of my friend's get married!!! Thanks again for viewing and commenting on the photo.
Best regards,

Thanks Jeff, this is really close to Torc Waterfall, another 100 metres upstream. The falls are lovely and a real tourist trap so I thought I photograph the area a little differently. Anyway, I'll be there many more times in my life so experimentation will continue!!
All the best,

Hi Mário, this is a great photo of the child. I was at a wedding recently and tried to get a photo like this of the happy couple's child but to no avail. If I was to make one suggestion, it'd be to crop out the lower left corner of the photo or more usefully alter the image in PS to clone out the blothiness there and in the area to the upper left of the child's right hand (though this looks like a finger mark due to image scanning). Nevertheless, I like this and the expression on the child's face is perfect. Nice one!

I can see why this photo as a thumbnail would be passed over for others. It's a shame as it's a really cool black and white shot. Very confusing on my eye I must say and that's what made me study it. Nice one & as you say B&W thumbnails are often not as appealing as colour ones. Keep on snapping and good luck with the B&W.

Antonio,
simple photos can be so beautiful, just like this one. Why not try to desaturate the colour in it on computer and see if playing with B&W makes it any different, maybe to make the plaster holding the bricks of the rear wall more pronounced?

Hi Ian, thanks for looking and commenting on my photos, particularly the one about the tree. I love that you saw the "wee" stars in it! Anyway, I think you're right about the photo O' Connell on the Crescent having a bit of a tunsten hue to it. I think it adds to it myself as the other photos I took during that sequence lacked edge, if you know what I mean.
However, it wasn't photographed in Dublin at all, but in Limerick city. That's about 200 km to the west of the capital!!! The reason I've been taking photos in Limerick is...well to begin with I live around the city so it's easy and secondly, the city is often given bad press in Ireland despite having a fabulous history and some beautiful (and not so!) architecture. I just want to build up a portfolio of the city in all its goodness before I do one of the bad things!
OK, take care and thanks again. Looked at some of your photos and was well impressed with them.

Hi Den, thanks for the compliment and the adjustments made. I'm not sure really how to use photoshop for selecting sections only. I guess I'll learn by trial and error! As for the photo itself, I kind of knew it would burn out as the sun was coming in from left and really lighting up the swans, while i suppose the metering system was compensating for the darkness of the water. Again, thanks.

Editor's choice? Why Not?
Without a doubt this photo is perfect for the editor's choice. At least it has stimulated real interest and honest commentary. I've been reading over comments and some like the photo, some don't. Personally, I'm more intrigued by it than anything else and maybe that's the objective of an abtract. Clearly, as the editor chose it, the editor liked it but given the range of commentary to date on this image, it's also clear that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Anyway don't they say that all art is subjective? If so,thank God for that as without subjectivity there probably wouldn't be creativity.
So thanks to the editor for choosing this image, and to Erika for the photo itself. Keep on snappin'!!
