Successfully abstracts the concept of the nude body - the softness indented by the gentle pressure of the delicate fingers, in the private world of the night.

Stunning shot - the brilliant colours and the textures of silk & skin work so well together.

Nice picture but you have got it upside down.

(Only joking!)

Good representation of the feeling of being at one with nature.

You have created a scene which is both glamorous and romantic - it reminds me of 2 Waterhouse paintings ("Lady of Shalott" & "Hylas and the Nymphs")* and captured in perfectly in your photo using under-exposure to keep the highlight detail on her dress and make darker shadows which enhance the drama. Overall a great success. Best wishes, Jonathan

Brilliant shot - how did you achieve that amazing lighting effect? (I NEED to copy it!).

Nice design and excellent quality post-processing to make a convincing composite.

(to nit-pick, the upper edge of the high-lighted drape on the left could be brightened/softened where the glass is behind it.)

Brilliant photo-art composition - it works so well in mono. My only (very minor) crit is about the upper edge of her right arm and hand which could be softened a bit.

You have some wonderful abstract work in your portfolio but this, almost your only image of a person, brings your photographic skills to life. I hope you develop your portrait psychology interest (I went to evening drawing classes for a couple of years to try to figure out what I wanted to do with photographing people - and found it very helpful, especially the sheer time you can spend looking and thinking which is quite difficult with a camera in your hands.

Best wishes, Jonathan

BTW I think the hair really adds to it.

Dear Mary, I don't remember exactly but I think I was browsing photos and I followed back to your portfolio from an interesting comment you had made - I often find it's a good guide to how thoughtful and serious a photographer is. I like many of your pictures, but this one seemed very poetic. It's a pity you have stopped posting them here - do you use another gallery site?

I would be interested to know what you think of my photos - I understand there may be some cultural differences and I hope you will not be offended by them.

Just as snow blankets the landscape and allows us to dream of perfection, so the bright sunlight dazzles us to feel we are in paradise. Of course we are not - but perhaps we can dream a little longer...

Yes I wondered about boosting the colour but (on my screen anyway) this makes some of the reds fully saturated, losing the detail and texture.

Successfully captures the feeling of time passing and accelerating - from the stable but fading memories of the past to the uncertain but more vivid rush of the present. Good concept and nicely put together.

Nicely captured expression (rather enigmatic, as the title suggests) and lovely subject. I firmly believe that content is more important than technique and you may not have had time to plan this - but if I may comment on the nuts & bolts: I think it would have looked better with a wider aperture (to narrow the DoF and make her stand out from the background) and a shorter exposure (to avoid the slight movement blur of her eyes and hair).

Brilliant portrait of a person, a moment, an age and a feeling.

Evidently a difficult print but you have done a good job to maintain the softness.

Good empathic portrait of a very definite person and a nice composition giving some context. The other versions seem to have disappeared but I don't think it would work so well without the colour.

I have visited your site several times and each time been interrupted before I could comment on your work.

I love this shot: although no expert on bird photography I appreciate the wonderful light and the nice composition as well as the owl keeping a watchful eye on you.

I agree with Jim - a little selective sharpening of the central area of the bird would mask what I take to be some movement blur due to it ruffling its feathers

Thank you for your kind comments. I look forward to seeing some of your work posted - it is a simple process and very interesting to see how viewers' respond to them, often with helpful suggestions (especially if you ask for them).

Interesting contrast of the classical pose and lighting with the modern styling - clothes, hair, tattoo.

It shows (IMHO) that the traditional techniques become "classic" because they actually looked so good in the work of artists from the Renaissance on and not just because it was the style of the time. Not to say there isn't a lot of room to experiment but you have to work hard to get any better result.

Back to this shot: my only minor crit is that the angle of your head (with the chin not visible) gives a rather hard outline which I think would look more elegant with your head tilted up. If you had another shot in this series like this you could transpose the head in PS; otherwise some shading could soften the line.

Very nicely represents the fleeting appearance of humanity in a timeless landscape. Good sense of movement (but I think her left hand could be softened slightly).

"The only thing certain in life is death, and we don't know when it will come" (or words to that effect) - Buddha.

But sometimes we know when it is close.

You have captured that moment well - in reality it is commonplace but it is so often hidden from view. A "vanishing point" is necessary for a perspective in life.
