Thank you very much Roby for writing! I'm taking a while off UF - a very long break, because I've moved and I'm living still with boxes and repairs/ renovations in the new place. All this takes a long time, I hope to be back as soon as I'll have things back to normal in my new home in Toronto. Wishing you a wonderful summer :) Kind regards, Ina

Thanks very much Laura for looking at my portfolio! I used to write a lot of thank you notes for each comment, but I had to change that, unfortunately, due to lack of time. I prefer to go straight to my friends new postings, I hope you don't mind if I don't reply with a "Thank you" because I still mean it - Best regards, Ina

Great detail and use of back/top light, Ina. There is an interesting level of shadow detail here and the textures are facinating. If the cost of the beautiful shadow detail seen here is a few slightly blown highlights (and it is very slight) I think it's well worth it. Great colors. The colors verge on a line of over-saturdationm but stop just short of that for a dazzling effect. Nice judgement there. The shallow DOF leaving the sky out of focus is essential here given the business of the forground patterns. Nice crop!

Ina, your use of the panorama crop, hence the large scale view feature in usefilm is giving me some thought. I reposted one of my waterfall pictures to test out this feature and I will use it more often in conjunction with fisheye or ultrawide views. Thanks for the inspiration. Eb

Thanks Eb, it was a very unusual sight (for me) to see these trees that look like giant contorted cacti sparsely scattered in the desert, with these huge flowers.

The panorama format really gives this shot the scale and resolution it deserves. It is sharp and beautifull against the saturated sky. I like how the branches are skewed on the diagonal. Eb

Hi Kelly, the Joshua trees look spectacular, the flowers are a creamy white, I made them a bit more yellow than they really are :)

I see these trees all the time but never have seen one in bloom. I have always wondered what they look like!!! Now I know. This is certainly a happy picture with yellow flowers and the bright blue sky. Thanks for the cheer. kelly

Hi Ina, those vibrant colours are fantastic. There may be a few hot spots, but they're barely noticeable, as they blend in nicely with the tones, the feel and the contrast. Good shot, I'm definitely beginning to see the value of panoramas, they offer an entirely different (and for me) new approach to composition. Good work, and use of the 2:1 format!
Cheers,
Hugo

Thanks very much Bob! I was going to post some other ones from last spring from my trip to Death Valley and the Eastern Sierras. I have a few with Mono Lake that would look nice if I could stitch them together, but that's a long shot :) In fact that's how I came across this one!

Thanks Mark, it's a wonder for me to see a place so different - especially the desert. I'm thinking of posting some more CA pictures from around Death Valley. It's definitely a place I'd love to revisit and spend some time. My favorites are the sand dunes, I'll post some in the future :) Meanwhile, I enjoy the song, too!

Ina, good dream and the sweet one and I agree it's an intelectual remedy for those hate winter. Spring is coming earlier there in CA and this is likely the sweetest season for the south. Deserts are in flush, Joshua trees are in full bloom and the skies are blue and all is as perfect as on your pictures. Great lirics to support the feeling. Cheers, n.j

Thanks Rina, I really appreciate it! I'm not usually posting flowers, it was the blue sky that made me do it, being that now we are in the midst of winter - grey skies, grey light, grey everything. I revisited my California pictures, and discovered a few that I may post... still not sure though what direction I'm taking :)

Thanks Ann, for you it's probably a common sight. I was going through some pictures from last March - my trip to Death Valley, and I came across this blue sky. I could never quite get the exposure right on any of the Joshua blooms, tried close-ups, etc. but they always came out a bit overexposed. I guess the contrast was too strong. Anyway, for me seeing these white spots in the desert was magic! I'm thinking of another post - a "California dreaming" mini-series. Still working on some ideas from my far-away perspective. Thanks for the nice comment :) Ina

Hi Kathy, I too need a little sunshine, it's been pretty dark here and we've had freezing rain and now it's snowing. It's not my usual stuff, as I went through some other pictures it just appealed to me, seeing that blue sky :)

Hi Peta, yes there is such a thing as a Joshua tree - it looks like a tree and a cactus, there's also a Joshua Tree National Park. I was in California last March, and they were in bloom, a very nice sight, especially for the tourists from colder climates! Right now, with snow and freezing rain I can only dream...

Great shot of these Joshua blooms Ina. Times like this I miss the Mojave desert. I had 6 years there surrounded by Joshua Trees. I love them. I'm one who's been struck down by those rainy day greys so it's lovely to see the rich blue sky and bright yellows here. Wonderful clarity and details. A beautiful image Ina. Enjoyed it very much.
Cheers - Ann :)

This really 'pops' Ina! I've always loved yellow and blues together. Love the perspective too - I can feel the clouds passing by.
There's really a Joshua Tree? How cool - I always thought it was just from U2's imagination ;) but oh what a great album!
