i am coming late to this shot, but wanted to give my 2 cents worth...first,the concept is lovely and i like how you kept your footprints at a minimum in the shot..i also like your position within the shot...now,as for any PS editing, just remember that "LESS IS MORE!" unless you are going for a more artsy/creative/abstract shot...in natural settings, highly saturated skies can take away from the natural beauty...also, attention to detail is very important!...if you add a PS light filter, then make sure it fits with the direction of the natural sun or moonlight...unless again you are trying to create a vignetted spotlight look or similar...i am still learning and use Paintshop Pro8 which is fun to play with...my best to you!..regards,gayle

Ali, Thanks for your comment! In addition to Jan's expert opinion, my view regarding your question is that probably the camera meter exposed for the ground. Because this is negative the processing lab probably compensated for the overexposed sky at the print stage, but then there were no light details in the sky. This is just a guess, though. I don't think you absolutely need a graduated density filter here because if you exposed for the sky you would still have a great image. I stopped using negative and moved to slide because I got tired of labs interpreting for me. Regards, Omar

Hey, you have done really well. Try changing the layer modes from normal to one of the other. You will see that option in the layer palette. It gives you all sorts of results and when you combine it with the opacity level...well, the world is your oyster.

with all the imperfections you have noted yourself, i loved this shot for its conceptual strength. judi's editing helps although the orange hue is a bit too dramtic for my taste; the composition speaks on its own. i also enjoed the multi-user editing session. thank you everybody.

I am so pleased Ali. It didn't take long. The lower half was given an adjustment with Brightness/Contrast whilst the top half was given a gradient blend overlay.

I like this picture very much because it communicates so clear a feeling. There is some very good advice here. I agree that the overexposure is a problem, but you might want to talk to the person who did the processing and printing. You should be able to get an adjusted color version. In the meantime, I hope you don't mind my doing a little color adjustment of my own . . . Regards, --george

Just remember when you edit a photo save it under a different file name and the original will always be the same. example pictue (all alone)save it after editing as (all alone edit) always save by selecting file (save as) command this gives you the option to change the file the pic save it plus its name. I normal save picture I am working on in a file called photoedits.

Hi robert, Thanx for your comments, I don't know much of editing programs and usually ruin my photos with them !! But now that I'm supposed to adjust the contrast and brigtness I've got less chance for ruining ;) So I'll try.. Hope i'll make it !! Your sample's really great !! well done !!
Thanks again ! Regards,

Here is a sample of how contrast affects sky color at sunset

I think the sky is like that because it was over exposed with out clouds the sky near sunset is normaly orange on the horizon blue above. If have an editing program you might be able to adjust the contrast/brigtness to get the effect you wanted by layering the sky. But as is its an excellent photo.

Salam Ali jan in Pesar jah-y khili gashang-i neshazteh va az nazare fotograpfi khili dorost ast.affarin
Your question :
The contrast is very high, to much for any film Here you need a medium density grey graduated filter for darkening the sky Then you see the orange The blue is UV light . The lens is vignetting so you see it more in the corner To get a nicer orange you can use a 81 C warming up filter in combination For the wide angle than a filter holder is necessary
The composition and moment is very nice Khodahfez Jan ( Ali Reza )
