Why show the top?
I was just excited to use my new wide angle lens. No other reason.
However -
Crop off the top and that takes the image to an 8 x 10... perfect for selling. Hmmm...

michael, good to see you back. and i see you had a great vacation too. antelope canyon... how can you go wrong here? one of the places very near the top of my list. i like this composition as it shows the true nature of the place. clearly showing "the slot". this is not something we often see in photos from this canyon.
that said, i question your choice to include the top third of the photo. because although it does give me a better sense for what the canyon is like it also creates a strong distraction. i think the drastic change in intensity of light as seen through the crack disturbs the flow of the composition.
take this opinion with a grain of salt, though. your intent should be the primary driver. was your intent to show us the slot? i think so, and i think you've done a great job. i would also like to see more abstract compositions though. knowing you, i'm sure you have more to show us ;^)

I just used the light meter on the camera. Some of the shots I let the camera figure it out (D70, landscape setting), and in some cases I did completely manual metering, and just shot one stop under and one over.
In the end I had to use Photoshop masking to bring out individual parts of the photograph to get the complete warmth and experience.
These are all long exposures, over a second, so having my randy dandy Bogen tripod with the ball head really helped.
I accentuated the perspective by using a Sigma 12 - 24mm lens, at the 12 mm setting.
Digital helped - had a lot of storage and shot like crazy for the limited time I had on the tour.

Great composition and lighting, as always, Michael. Great work. I've seen many shots of antelope canyon, but it never seems to get old.
