I have been shooting medical supplies for a Toronto based company. Commercial and event photography are my side jobs and fun at the same time. Although most of my commercial images are not really artistic, they are used for brochures and poster. My employer decides on the background colours, and I have to create what he wants to see. Sometimes I disagree with his choice of backdrops, but it would be improper of me to push for my ideas and make him unhappy. I use Provia 100F (120mm), and scan it with an epson scanner. Then, I balance the images' colours and levels in Adobe Photoshop. As I convert from TIFF to JPEG, the sharpness of the image is obviously affected.
Anindya, thanks for your comments and encouragement. Indeed, I also used side lights (strobes), but my employer did not like it. However, I liked it better because it gave a bit of reflection on the needle suggesting its material (steel). Well, what can I do :)
As u have said, not very artistic, very clinical in fact.I like the modelling towards the tip of the needle, that shows it's roundedness, but the base is a little too flat and 2D imo.Maybe if u had used side lighting to add a highlight throughout the length of the needle the image could have been more interesting, but doubtless u had commercial limitations.
