Hi Susie. What a wonderful place to swing from! The view is gorgeous and the persepctive through the swing makes it very interesting. Oh, and because you said sisters and I don't know your local geography, I was looking for a sister... and I found one -or thought I did for a sec- the little figure standing near the water (thru the swing! ;-) )... and then I realise it's not the sister at all! Do I feel silly! ) This is a wonderful mountain view!

Beautiful landscape with lovely details. Love the snovy bue mountain on the background, very pretty detail. The sky is perfect blue, great gradation, nice lights tones and dramatic dark silhouette of trees. Excellent contrast, great photograph of nature. Very well done dear Susie! Great one! :)

Hi Susie,
Out of the goodness of my arrogant little heart, I've decided to ask you back next week for another try ;) (Simon reference) I very seldom watch any of that show, BTW. It's just whenever I do, that guy is always going against the popular grain. He plays the perfect jerk in that respect :)
One of the great things about digital is since you have a tripod set-up anyway, it costs you nothing but a little time to shoot any number of combinations of the exact same scene for your own comparison. You won't get frustrated... you will just discover all kinds of great ways to create your images.

Hi Simon...er..Andre! ) I appreciate your point of view and it certainly is valid. I never thought of it that way. Isn't photography great? A photo can be looked at and seen through so many different eyes. I'm having a blast playing around with aperature settings. It's like a whole new world to me. (I'll probably get myself SO frustrated soon...) Anyway, thanks for being candid. I really like that! Susie

Hi Susie, Here I go being Simon again!
Everyone else is praising the sharpness and crispness throughout. Front to back with the F22 aperature. And, I know that is the intention. So, yes, you have achieved that. But, for me (and only me it seems) it doesn't seem natural for everything to be in focus. I guess it's because I was always taught to try and use DOF as if it were your eye that was looking at the scene. Since your eye is physically incapable of focusing on the mountains in the background, and the swing at the same time, it doesn't seem right to me. Just my misguided 2 cents. Andre

hi and hope your val-day was enjoyable...i like the view thru the swing and the FG interest...i think F22 is a good choice to get all front to back in focus but feel BG is softer than what i would expect to see with that setting...maybe that is a difference with digital vs. film? Still a nice overall comp and what a perfect place to put a swing! regards, gayle

Looks like it would be a great view from up there, you'll just have to climb it again now Susie, taking your camera gear with you ;) Mind you its a pretty good view from here too, what a back yard.
I think the tree line in the centre need to be lightened a bit to bring out more details, but an interesting composition that makes one think about what it would be like as a child growing up there.

Super DOF here Susie. Razor sharp from front to back. Lovely rich colours and nice framing of the mountain through the swing. A lovely scene and to think you climbed to the top. WOW! I climbed a mountian once but it was less than 3,000 feet and I couldn't walk for days after that. In my defense it was a stepp 3,000 feet though pulling myself up with chains along the track for a lot of the way. No snow like this one though. Good job on both the beautiful photo and the climb Susie.
Cheers - Ann :)

Hi Susie...great shot with lovely colours. Lots of good advice flying around and that of Adnan is particularly pertinent. Experiment, experiment. Take several shots and vary your shutter/aperture settings. When my health permits me to go landscaping I would hope to remember all that I once knew from my early experiences. Photography, in any field, is about what pleases YOUR eyes in the first instance and the bonus is when other people agree with your shot decisions. I love this scene and a part of me chooses to wonder where the children are that use this swing and did Susie have a crafty go when no-one was looking:):):) Best wishes as always my sweet...Ray

Hi Susie! Great image! I like the creative framing of the mountain through the swing ropes, and I love the clarity throughout. Heh-heh, can I join you in the F22 Club? I'm using the A-Dep mode, that does this through auto-focus. I know you like to manual focus, but just in case, it's there. I find it most useful especially when it's cold and my eyes are watery. I'm also using it for still lifes to keep everything in focus left to right. Very creative composition, top to bottom! Best regards, Ina

Hi Brian, The lens I have does have an image stabilizer. I think it really helps, especially on handheld. I did use a tripod with this one though. Thanks for your input. I love getting tips like these. Oh, and I didn't use a polarizer. I have one, but haven't started experimenting with it yet. ) Take care!

hi susie let me say that using F22 yeilds some beautiful results,it gives an even balance and keeps the focus clean throughout.sometimes using a polariser at F22 can make an image to soft however increasing the exposure can also counteract the loss of light.is that lens you use an image stabilizer ?? also if you use a polarizer remove it for a stronger sharper focus. hope that helps a bit and as for the photo above you captured an interesting view and having a strong foreground subject has really helped to make this a different view. not sure on the framing effect but its what you like that counts and theres no arm in experimenting.

Hi Susie, I think you have it.. Everything looks great, sharp front to back. Such a beautiful area. You are doing fine with type of setup. I think you might have a dust bunny on your sensor, it is that spot in the sky on the extreme right side. I can give you some info on how to check this and clean the sensor if you need help. Looking forward to seeing more of this great work. Don. Forgot to tell you that I like the mtn peak framed by the rope of the swing.

Hi Susie! Generaly all parts looks sharper, but becose of high F settings image have a lot less fine details (you lost on dynamic range) In my opinion there is no need for F22. But still great image !! Best regards
