I see what you're saying, and understand 100%. You're very right. That corner has been the deciding factor for many that see the image. For some that know that building, like to see that square of sidewalk. I agree with you, it tells too much, and almost presents itself as 'photo' rather than art. I had first tried a crop, slicing the entire left at the gate..and had a hard time with it (guess I was too attached). In retrospec, I should have stuck with the crop.
Thank you very much for your honest feedback, and constructive help! I, to this day, look at your image: "Inferno - part III", as one of the finest images that I've seen here on usefilm. There are photography classes that should use that photo for desection of what makes a perfect capture. I will always look forward to comments from you on my images!
best, -Joel

Hi Joel, Very strong geometric abstract you present us with. The combination of colours adds an additional strenght. I feel a bit ambiguous about the lower right corner; in a way it tells too much about the actual subject. Also, it creates the need for the long horizontal lines in this composition, which are, IMO, not really an addition to the feel. A crop just outside the curve would've sketched the same feel and image... In another way, it places the geometrical shapes into a context, referencing at the size. Maybe if you'd only include the gate in the composition would already been enough, if you know what I mean. The best of both, so to say. Very interesting image.
Cheers,
Hugo

Hi Joel, Think I am missing out on what others have discovered......can't figure what it is at all.....but that dosn't matter. Striking composition and color make this a hit with me. I'll keep looking for the gate. CU Glenn

Roby,
Thank you so very much! It's so rare when you look down, and get inspired by lines, red, white, and HUGE sweeping curves...and that smile that draws across your face when you are about to turn your camera on, and take the first picture of what you see. That was this moment. I had just stepped out of the elevator, and walked to the edge, and looked down. I hope that I captured the energy and excitement of that.
cheers, -Joel

John,
Wow, thank you so much! Very honored from your comments.
Just recently, the Civic Center got a paint job on the exterior, so that blue dome, and gold tower *pop* against the green surrounding hillls. ..probably the way that Frank Loyd Wright wanted it to be!
Thanks again!
cheers, -Joel

Joel,
What a great series on the Marin Civic Center. I had driven past the building many times, but had never taken the time to enter it. Now I feel through your work I have seen what I have missed, thank you.
This one deserves an award, I'm sure it will come soon.
Regards, John

Thank you so much Jeanette! There was a comment that it would be nice to have someone in the picture. What's your thought about that? I feel that having it stark, and simple works well with the rest of the series... but that's just me. :)

nice find, good abstract composition, I like the color and curves... Now that I 've figured out what it is, I like the depth and the gradiation of light and shadows. wonder how it would be with a figure or a part on a man within.. nice shot! regards..
