About Guangzhou Train Station, looking straight up at the center dome.

The one thing that you will see all over China, is construction. What you will also see, is that most of the scaffolding is bamboo, and tied together with either twine, or the more modern plastic zip-tie. My thought was that it probably promotes safety, by the age old 'be careful' rule of construction.

This was taken at about 6pm. When I was taking it, my colleague says, "did you see the guys working?". that's when I zoomed out, and found the center of the room as quickly as I could. That turned out to be the escalator ride up to catch the train.

All worked out in the end. It's my only abstract image of mainland China.

Excellent abstract Joel - the two workers add scale nad lift the abstract to a different level. Lovely light, symmetry and composition. Congrats on a well deserved SC!

Hi Joel,
Congratulations on SC award! Very well deserved! Awesome image! I did have the chance to visit China last year and was just awed by the structures and the rate of development over there. Great shot!

heheheh... Do I read that correctly?

"licensed Foodshop"
"Porn meat (...)"

I know someone told a local Chinese floral shop that the translation into english of the Chinese word for "Fresh" was F*ck - so they started advertising "F*ck flowers". A true story, so such a translation wouldn't surprise me either, although you wouldn't expect it in Hong Kong...

Have fun in the Felix bar:)

Hugo

Hugo... wow!

I am with out words as well! I was expecting to get schooled on this one! it's my first attempt at silhouettes and abstracts together. I was so excited when i looked up saw the shapes of the workers, and the bamboo against the sub-divided shapes. that's the tough part about taking pictures in a train station... the train diesn't wait for you...so I had to work fast!

....off to the Felix bar tomorrow night :) Had a good time at lunch today walking around the market. attached is a little reminder.. should bring the smell back for ya! ;)

cheers, and thanks for the very kind comments!

Joel Aron Joel Aron   {K:14920} 6/8/2006
Thank you so much Phil!

I'm finding it harder and harder to find images to put up. I was in such shock when in mainland China, that the more I look at the images, the more they start to look like toursist shots... know what I mean? I guess I gotta have faith in some of them, and just post 'em!

I hope more to come! thanks again for your support!! very appreciated!
cheers my friend!

Oh, this is strong, Joel.
At first it's 'just' an abstract, then the workers add perspective, and my brain suddenly oriented to the fact it's straight overhead. Cool!
