Thanks Trish . . . in a bizarre twist . . . all the kids have gone (school field trips, etc.) but I hadn't! Great spot though . . . to be respected deeply by any lover of history!

Thanks Doc!! I like this "Bug" shot and recognize . . . but cannot name it. I love how it looks like it's in it's own world at this scale. Former Minolta man, hmmmm? Small world!

A happy, if late, 4th of July to you too, Doyle. Magnificent scene here. Actually I've been there in 1991 & even have this on a color slide somewhere. I think I had a Minolta Slr like yours at the time. Thank you for your comments. I made some experiments with my green bug & attach what I could come up with so far. It's from a slightly different angle. Best regards, Rafi

Well . . . the water reeks of tar and methane gas Mary . . . which bubbles up continuously. The one in the tar pit is struggling to get out though history tells us this will not be the case. His mate and child are on the bank . . . the child screaming in panic with tar on his feet running down the bank. Not a happy picture really . . . but an honest one. Sorry to burst your happy bubble! :)

Thanks Marcus! We did, indeed, enjoy our 4th . . . flag waving proudly as the neighborhood celebrated in the old fashioned way (you know, illegal fireworks, B-B-Qs, etc.)! Hope you enjoyed yours as well and I have to add that the comment made to you on your shot made me laugh out loud . . . all this time, the birds have been following you???? (That's rich!) Much appreciated support my friend!

Thanks Ray! Agreed. Unfortunately, to remove the modern influence in the modern day required only a thin wedge (if you will) of the scene . . . and I wanted all to know what the scene was today. I agree . . . the "Blast from the Past" was a better view. Doh! And likely a better title . . . hindsight's 20/20, huh? :)

The first shot with the modern influence removed was the better view but this composition looks great showing the entire scene and the sadness of a situation that probably took place all those years ago. Great details and loads of interest Doyle. Well done to you my friend. I'm on my usual weekly catch-up. My very best wishes to you as always....Ray

Thanks Avi . . . they're two different shots and two different views. The other stressed the scene as it may have been by trying to eliminate the modern. This tried to show both. (I think on a personal level, though, I agree with you!) Appreciate the comments though!
