Thank you Anson for critiquing this photo. I do really manipulate my pictures with my editing software. I do see where you mean as far as framing. Thank you for the helpful advice. :) All the very best, Ashley

This approach is definitely more interesting than a conventional B/W image, Ashley. You are very capable with the computer image editing software, for sure. One suggestion. The barn itself is a little large for the frame size. You might consider backing off a little and framing it with some tree branches, or even another doorway, if something is available. This will add depth to the image. Congratulations. Anson

No problem, Ashley... I have the same problem, especially when composing in the camera.... I try and really on my tripod level bubble and if all else fails, do a slight rotation later in post-processing...
It is really just a basic that I absolutely hate being called on in a critique... and I end up red faced.

Thank you Dave for pointing that out to me about the horizon. I'm very blind when it comes to seeing things such as that. I do appreciate your critique and yes I do ask for hard critiques so I can become better. I'm still a newbie at photography and I need all the help I can get. Thank you again! Best Wishes, Ashley

You are lucky to have barns to photograph... hard to find where I am at...
I like barn photography and generally prefer either straight color or straight black and white... I am not sure about the glow for this particular one. Though it is interesting.
One of the things you want to watch for are the horizons... I have a difficult time with that two so if I am ever in doubt, I use the pull-down ruler in Photoshop to check them. This horizon seems just slightly off... That could be because the building is on a hill, I don't know. But one of the easiest "caught ya" comments people can make on UF is the horizon...
Just a thought, since your bio asks for "hard critiques".
Best wishes, Dave

You have had real vision with this shot Ashley and have certainly created an image that stands out from the crowd. There is a mixture of other world quality and almost a sinister feeling of something frightening about to happen...really suspenseful. Congratulations on a great creation, Regards, Brian

Excellent photo Ashley, the greyscale plus the grain effect plus the contrast between the darkness roundly the house and the bright texture of the house makes a very moody image, scary I can say, and that is great, I love the well contrasted imagies, especialy when the photos are in one color or greyscale. Excellent job. Best regards!
