About This seagull appears to stop mid-air to view me as if to ask what ' I said '.....

I purposedly used a grainey effect ... just to try it and am curious as to 'what you think ' ...

Thank You

The quick fix that i use in photoshop...cuz God knows this hobby can be expensive...two options...I isolate the background from the water and the bird with the magic wand...and then blur or despeckle the background...hope that helps. :)

Hello Dan, thank You for the comment ....
I appreciate it very much ... I know that many of my images have too much noise and I don't know how to clear it up - I mean I have been told about 'neat image' but can't afford to buy it right now ...do you know of any FREE downloads?

Regards,
Michele~

Fabulous shot Michele... love the contrast and the look of surprise on the seagull (if that's actually possible haha)
Right moment! The sky has a bit of noise...but otherwise...fantastic image

That is so funny how the gull turns his head and looks right at you -- wonderfully captured. I also think the grainey effect works well for this image.

Nice work.

Hi John - UF has been off lately here so I am finally able to get back just now -

Thank You for the comment my dear ...I did take about 20 shots of the birds to get just this one - It's a funny shot tho - I wish I'd had a bigger lens but one day :))

Best wishes,
Michele~

Hi Doyle , I did forget to re-set the exposure compensation as all the birds just came at once and I went crazy trying to get a good or decent shot :((

As usual your information is greatly appreciated and of course I LOVE your B&W version much better as the gull really stands out ...
Thank You for the lesson and the time to view my friend !

Best regards,
Michele~

Lovely dramatic background Michele, great to see you experimenting. You can lighten the bird by selecting the bird and 'brightness/contrast or a 'levels' adjustment.
Just a tip.
Have a great weekend.
Robbie

Keith  Growden Keith  Growden   {K:29240} 2/22/2008
I think you have done a nice job of this Michele. Yes, we would like to see the bird a bit lighter but possibly you may have blown the sky out and you would have lost that dramatic look. One way around it would have been to put your exposure control on to spot or even centre maybe. I dont mean the EV one. Be a different one somewhere. Only thing is, the bird isnt going to hang around waiting for you to change settings lol. On a dull day, you usually dont need to have the -1 even though i have done a couple of times for a subject that was still bright. Anyway its easier to brighten up the pic on the computer than to go backwards. Well done. Big hug. Keith

Doyle D. Chastain Doyle D. Chastain   {K:101119} 2/21/2008
Michele:

Your shots lately are all at -1 step exposure compensation. Is that intentional? You may have forgotten to reset it?

This guy must have been somewhat close for you to get him at 22mm, unless you cropped to enlarge. The exposure is a tad dark for the bird but spot-on for that dramatic sky.

Although I seriously like to see you play and experiment, the grainy effect here is probably best used in a B&W setting! If you wanted to add the noise while you take the shot bump the ISO off the 200 and up to the 1600 level, being sure to turn off noise reduction. At the same time, you'd be able to get a better exposure for that 1/100o sec shutter speed (good choice to freeze the guy)!

Just something to play around with if you wanted to look into a different effect! :)

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~
