Exactly, Andre! It is something that can touch us in a more direct way, since we all cope, more or öess, with the same problems, hopes, or even sorrows and fears. It may even be much like imagining something that the owner of the truck said, or some day in his life, etc. Purely imaginative of course, but also familiar.

You got the feeling exactly Nick. I've said it before here on this site. When we present images of old historic objects or structures from the "common people" it seems to bring about some nostalgic feelings in viewers. We imagine the owner of a truck like this at age 32 with a family to look after, and wonder what it must have been like trying to make a living 60 years ago. Andre

They are indeed pieces of history, Andre. I couldn't say that any better. And they are also pieces of a not so "widely known" history. It is about the personal lives that were affected by and connected to them, I guwss, and so I can only find it great that you notice such pieces and present them to us. Such things might contain more humanism than all the monuments on this world taken together. ;-)
Well, in the meanwhile such images surely carry a big part of your personal signature. And I do also think that keeüing them on the "darker" side of things is the way to go here. Or just imagine such a truck in the middle of colorful gardens and sweet trees... it might also look good but the character of documenting would be lost, I guess. And with it also a big part of all dreams and fears of the people behind the truck (or any other object).
Cheers!
Nick

Thanks Nick, As you know by now, old abandoned cars and trucks are one of my favourite subjects. I find them very interesting in a nostalgic sort of way. They are like little pieces of history. Every mark, dent and broken glass has a story of it's own. I prefer to mostly keep the images on the darker side for one of the reasons you mentioned. (the texture and the "feel" of the image) Thanks for the great review on this one. Andre

The way the different surfaces of metal represent their own "quality! is incredibly well taken, Andre! From the shining reflecting chrome up to the rusty areas, it shows up all so well! So I think that both your focus and the xpsoure balance were great here! On the latter, I notice how real the anaglyph of the whole shape of the vehicle looks. Right clear to be not only seen but also felt.
The small loss of focus at the very right doesn't matter at all - quite the contrary, I would say! It adds some subtle "leading" towards the rest of the truck and especially towards its front left, which seems to me to be the main attraction here.
The plants and the grass add very good tension against the old iron and steel. This seems to enhance the typical "atmosphere" of such an image in B&W.
Very well done, indeed!
Nick

Hi Fadel, Thanks for the comment. You definitely have seen old truck images from me before, but not this one. I took a few shots last summer about 10k from most of the others you have seen in my portfolio. I'm trying to copy the toning that I have on some of the old prints I made back in the seventies. :) I'm posting a few more in the next few days. I guess they look familiar because all the farmers up there must have used similar vehicles. Anyway, they make great subjects. They stand perfectly still and don't fly away like the birds do. :) Andre

Thanks Dave, I've got a few of these that I've been hanging on to since July. I think I will do a couple more and try to stay as close to this one in tones as possible. Maybe print a set. Andre
