Sorry to hear of the problems with the camera, Guido. Another option to use a different flash is to operate it as a slave to the onboard flash, using a photo cell to fire it.

Hi Guido,
I just happened to read about your unfortunate situation with the old flash unit damaging your new camera. It's such a shame, and easily done. When I first got my Nikon D200, I was lucky enough to read about the problem purely by chance in a Nikon forum. I had an old 1980's Sunpak Autothyristor flash unit that was perfectly good except for the voltage output being borderline high for the new digital cameras. People in the forum told me about a product called Wein Safe Sync. You use the little safe sync inbetween your hot shoe and the old flash unit and it acts like a voltage adapter that makes sure damaging voltage never gets to your new camera. I picked up a used Safe Sync very cheaply and I still get use out of my old flash unit with peace of mind. You might want to consider one of those units when you get your camera back from the shop.
Too bad I couldn't have got this information to you sooner.

modern buildings disturbing the ancient view of London.A shame.Only Photoshop can delete the background buildings.
Dear Dave: I have allready an issue with the new Olympus E-Pl1.The camera was working fine with external flash Canon Speedlite.Than i tried an older little Philips Flash and apparently the old flash has damaged the camera.Canon flash wont work anymore.SO a good beginning..now looks like I have to send the camera back for repairs.The shop is not nearby..so postal costs to The Netherlands.It is somewhat very upsetting.The small Philips flash worked fine on my dslr canon.No problem.Looking through the manual..indeed its mentioned..do not use older flashes..they can damage..etc..

It is kind of a shame about the modern architecture cropping up in the background. Also, I guess it is difficult to get shots now a days of any of the old structures without scaffolds and cleaning equipment all over the place. The last time I was in London all the old monumental buildings were covered in thick, black soot. And, no that wasn't in the 1800's. :)

A very nice image. I think i would have cropped out the modern buildings on the right to emphasize the old world feel of the tower. Unless, of course, you were trying to depict both old and new london.
