About Aaron Dunn does a seal launch off the cliff wall in Desolation Cayon on the Green River in Utah. The free fall was photographed at 1/500. The challenge was compensating for digiticam shutter lag. The rapids were photographed separately at 1/30th second using a ND filter held (not mounted) over the 990's lens. The two images were then composited in PS.

This shot makes me want to hold my breath when I hit the water...very mind-grabbing. Also, congrats on POTD. You deserve it. Regards, Wendy ;-)

I think you worked wonders on this one, the combining is very well done and the subject matter is very dynamic, well done Jim - Richard.

Jim, I'm glad you decided to share some of the tech info on this shot. For a minute there I thought I was hallucinating (again). The composite idea gives the best of both worlds with the flowing water and the kayaker frozen in mid-drop. Very cool. By the way, that looks like a pretty nasty hole at river left (top of photo for the non-paddler crowd). Good potential to leave a DNA sample on that rock, huh.
