About Took this at a Lilly Pon farm in Maryland. (I always thought they were Lilly Ponds.) I used a tripod and it was fairly early in the morning. I really appreciate your comments and critiques!

This is another instance where the ratings piss me off! Fives for composition and originality???? I am completely charmed by this photograph. It very much reminds me of the photographic work of a painter [Elizabeth Aurich] friend of mine. It is one of the most original captures of a flower I've seen on this site, and the composition is absolutly marvelous!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sarah - Thanks for commenting on my lotus blossom (so far you're the only one). We seem to have similar tastes - I just posted a water lily picture.

This is very nice, but I do have a couple of comments. I think I would crop some off the top, but I'd leave the bottom as it is. Also, I would have looked around a bit for another subject. The two blooms so close together are a bit strange.

Finally, you didn't mention a polarizing filter. Did you use one? If not, you should consider it. There's an interesting article in the August "Outdoor Photographer" about using filters with digital cameras.

I don't know if this will get in trouble here, but you might want to check out a site called nikonians.org - it's geared to people who use Nikon equipment. They have a VERY active discussion forum dedicated to the D1/D100 (just tell them drjimbob sent you).

P.S. - I think where you were was Lily Pons - I checked out their web site when I was trying figure out when the lotus blossoms would be in full bloom. And, we say their sign on the way to hike Mt. Catoctin over the 4th.

Hi Sarah, yes I thought they were Lilly Ponds ?? I agree with the top crop ,I think you need the bottom leaf IMHO working with two objects creates a ping-pong effect between the two,so another object ( the leaf in this case)helps the eye to keep moving around your image.
Just another little thing ,get rid of those three or four annoying bright white highlights.Lovely subject to work with I wish I some growing near me!Cheers Micky.

Sarah; beautiful subjects, and well done. I'd suggest cropping some of the top and also a bit of the bottom to make an even stronger composition. Water lilies are one of my favorite flowers to shoot, and this is nice. Cheers. Craig
