Wanting to fulfil another of the fine projects on Usefilm I went to London and looked for something I could get a different angle on. Evryone shoots the BA LOndon Eye ferris wheel either at night or on a sunny day, and always from the front or as a detail. I thought I'd try getting the whole thing in from the side. It has not been desaturated, its london in October, everything comes as Black and White as standard! As usual upload doesn't do this justice, I ran it out A3 on nice art paper and the detail of the wheel is actually pretty cool.
I've taken this angle but against a blue sky and in colour, which resulted in yet another not so interesting view of the Wheel. There is definitely a more "streety" feel to this London Eye photo than others I've seen. It's interesting giving these tourist sites this sort of treatment as opposed to the sparkly, colourful images we expect to see. A different perspective, which presents a place of fun like this in a manner more akin to a glum a council high-rise.
Ahhh, that sky - reminds me why I hang out over here during the "bad months".
Richard. Yeah, you're right, but I'm a graphic designer so I live and breathe PS and tend to rely on it too much. I've been trying to be a bit more 'dogma' about the process and only touch levels and curves to get images looking right. However, just to prove I can do it, I've dodged the trees and also darkened the sky to make it more menacing. Thanks very much for the feedback, its nice to get something constructive for a change!
Andrew, This really IS a different view of the Eye. I've never seen this angle. My only concern about the image is the darkness of the bottom left of the image. Try the article in the Usefilm tutorials: "A Better Way to Dodge and Burn in Photoshop." That is, if you're using Photoshop. It's a very good article. Regards, Richard
