thank you all for your comments and recommendations. just some technical info i'd like to share on the particulars of this photograph. i took these picture from the 23rd floor of the Adam's Mark hotel, so i was nearly eye level with these aircraft as they came by at over 400 miles per hour. seems like everytime they came by for their low/slow "photo op" passes i was busy changing lenses or something else, so i had to time the high speed passes. thank you all again for your comments, they are benficial as i strive to become a better photographer.
Nice photo! The kind of photo I used to try for (with varying success). I should go to some airshows again, I never tire of trying to line up the perfect panning shot. I don't know if you used autofocus or not, but I've always found that manual focus works better, and 1/1000 or even 1/500 would have been fast enough, which would give you greater depth of field.
