This shot gives you the image of "The Prairies of Canada" On the hill, where I took this shot, you can see for miles in either direction. The municipal roads are straight. The bullet holes on the sign are typical out in the "boonies" The locals have nothing constructive to do with their time, I guess!
Excellent composition. Getting the trafficsign in the foreground makes the shot. You should rotate it clockwise a bit though, the horizon should be horizontal. I don't know if the graininess is such a detractor here. It adds to the atmosphere somehow.
The elements in this shot are framed excellently... but it really suffers from either a bad scan, or more so, the high ISO film. See the clouds? They have some major grain problems.
As for layout and everything else, I think it's pretty good! The fallen over, bullet ridden sign, the view that stretches on and on... the one other things to always check before firing the shutter is that the horizon is straight. Looks like you've got a tilt to the left side of the frame.
