"RL" has prevented me from submitting a timely reply, but once again I'd like to thank everyone for their feedback. You've given me some good ideas to try. Fiddling just now, I've tried combining the altered and unaltered image for what is hopefully more dynamism.

I think this one worked quite nicely, Becky - looks like it must have taken a fair amount of work to achieve! I like the way you emphasized the gentle curve of each petal and the way everything intensifies the closer to the center you get. The original is nice, too, although the light falloff at the top detracts a little. As Kim said, they each stand well on their own!

Kim's comment reflects what I'm thinking about this image. I like your treatment but I think the context may be missing - it may not work really well as a stand-alone, but it could be very effective as a part of a larger image? Just my $0.02.

I really like the feel of the lines in this one... very smooth and silky. But I wish there was a touch of sharpness somewhere in the image to ground my eye so that it doesn't just wash over and on to the next. I'm thinking maybe the yellow in the middle? Another suggestion would be to tone down the bud on the right just a little so it isn't competing as the brightest spot in the image.
I like the original as well... but they are quite different images and stand well on their own.

Becky,
First of all thank you for your comment on my butterfly series. I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge. I quite like the blurred version actualy. I agree with Audrey though that an even stronger blur might be even better. It also misses something around the edges, I feel. If you make 'arty' shots I think you should finish it completely by adding a frame/border that suits the image. This shot makes me feel kind of 'psychadelic', 70's... I know you'll find something nice :-).

Becky, I wish I can help throw light on this, but know nothing about photoart. Wonder if this might be more interesting if the 'blur' was even stronger? Following this with interest to see what others might think.

Here's the original for comparison. Should I just let sleeping flowers lie (unsmudged, that is)?
