Hey Jeff, thanks for the comment. The original print was pure black and white. I don't know much about scanning. I just got this scanner to put my pics on this site. I do, however, know a lot about photoshop. And I've been messing with the levels, contrast, etc. just to make my scans look as close to the original as I can.
There is actually more detail in the upper right on the original print, including traces of vague smoke which I think adds a nice effect (on the original print anyway). But obviously you can't see that here.
Works for me Travis. I like the highly compressed tones which has produced a really graphic image that looks a bit like line art. The choice of grade 5 was a good one.
Was your print pure black and white.? The scan I have shows a lot of jpeg compression artifacts.
Were it mine, I probably would want to lose the top right hand corner detail. Nice work!
