About Found this on the way to the laundry.
Its about 5 inches long. I took about 5 photos, and only on the last did I realise there were 2 others on this poor plant alone. Wonder what they'll turn into?
I actually stood right over it to reduce the glare of the sun.

good angle for this macro. Certainly alloiws for the sense of length of the critter.

Love your titles, too.

Hey, Heather, despite the doom it spelled for this poor plant, this is my favorite photo of yours. Congratulations on Donor Photo of the Day. The square crop works well!

Best regards,
Sue

Great Capture Heather. The image might benefit a little if you booted the Contrast a touch just to add a little zip to the colourful Catapillar

Heather, judging from all the views, plenty of people wanted to take a closer look at this photo. It really is quite spectacular and worthy of a insect magazine publication. I love the colour. It is bright and very natural and real. I also like the angle which you chose to photograph from. You can really feel the depth, like the caterpillar can fall off to its death if it doesn't look out.I like the way its body has that twist, and the two blue "eyes" really stand out nicely. There are so many factore making this photo work. Well done for the vision to see what was there.

Thanks for the comments. Alex, my flatmate says this is a hawk moth caterpillar, but he says that about every caterpillar so I dont believe him!

Nice one Heather, it dosn't appear in any of my Hong Kong insect books, perhaps a trip to the library is in order?

Ah, the bug (and the thumnail view) fooled me with those "false eyes" on his back. Nice angle.

This would look good in one of those books about animals, I've never seen such a critter. Grrreat job!!

Andy Eulass   {K:13435} 12/3/2002
I agree with Terrence about the DOF. The DOF helps to heighten the sense of how long this little critter is. The composition is great.

coolness, this I dig, great curvy shape, the shallow DOF plays into that perfectly, and great work killing the harsh sun by casting a shadow, go heather go
