Well, thank you very much for your helpful criticism. I will refer the people who usually buy my photography to you for better work.

I haven't been doing much for a couple of years, and I don't have a digital and have to go to a friend to scan the pictures. Moreover, I'm extremely critical of my work, so hardly anything I shoot ends up meeting my criteria. Of these pictures too, there are some I don't like. I will add one more, which I like, but I'm not sure whether I like it because this is the singer of one of my favourite bands or because I like it as a picture. Hard to judge when you're the photographer, sometimes.

A picture of full drama and successful atmosphere. Sincerely Gerhard

the middle part of the picture is a plastic blue, that I in Berlin photographed and with photoshop into the reflection used would have.

I merely meant, that it's good
to know the rules of composition,
but I never conciously use them,
it looks like you do the same. :-)

Aernout Casier   {K:1376} 8/25/2005
Still, I don't know what you meant with your first comment, even though you are obviously referring to my comment on one of your pictures.
The rule of fourths doesn't exist, of course, but since many people are exactly following the rule of thirds, it might be worth while to try and deviate from that rule. Like you did: dead centre, or, my suggestion, creating even more space around the subject of your picture. It sort of depends on what you want with the picture, and I got this nature-y feel with your picture, hence the suggestion...
I considered cropping the left side once I scanned the picture, yes, but I didn't really like it much. Moreover, this is the picture on my negative...

You know, the rule of thirds.
Have to admit, I never heard
of the rule of fourths.

Did you consider cropping the
left side so his head ends up
dead center in the frame?

Aernout Casier   {K:1376} 8/25/2005
huh? What do you mean?

Great photograph!

I tell people about
rules of composition
then I go on breaking
breaking them at
every opportunity :-)
