Unless Mr. Williams I wear no hat to take off. Nevertheless, this "hateful" image goes straight off ot my favourite list. I wonder if they catched anything in the end...

The fishermen and the water look great. What did you do to the upper half? If that truly is natural light I got to go to Australia.

Different kanji, Doug, and with the kanji you have in mind the word order would be "shi-nikui." Although the spelling of the transliteration is the same, the original kanji is quite different. But I do agree that Roger's wonderful photo is difficult to emulate, so to that extent "shi-nikui" is also true... and easier to accept than the thought behind my comment--a reaction of jealousy for the talent displayed seems to be behind the "nikui" comment.

I really think that Roger should have you used the term 'Nikui-shi' which literally means 'Hard or Difficult To Do'!

Hi Roger, excellent use of a gradual tobacco filter. A cokin? The backlighing on the thin tread is excellent, and the setting and composition are perfect. Outstanding shot, very well exposed, showing enough details in the fishermen to not turn them into silhouettes. It livens up the image. The hazy background (calming) creates a very effective contrast with the late afternoon activity in the foreground. Roger W. comment "hateful" hits the spot. It leaves me jealous....;o) Top Notch photograph!
Cheers,
Hugo

Awesome, Roger. No other word for it. I take my hat off. The final touch of excellence is that halo of light around the fishing rod and line on the right. The Japanese have a word for a photo this good. They call it "Nikui," which literally means "hateful." Can you work that one out? [g]
