About The Faerie Queen

Last night I had
an omen dream,
woke up and stood
still by the sea,
suddenly I saw
the faery queen!

Her soft quiet voice
covered the wind.
I tried to speak
but voice refused
to introduce
my poor thought?s peak

She spoke no words
and yet I got
images green?
heard angels? wings?
her silence gave
the earth?s pure shape.

Long hair, curly,
pink - red cheeks,
thick lips and smile,
angelic eyes
cut silent mists
like earth?s vast myths..

This is part of an experimental series of dolls I have at home. Again slow shutters and wide aperture, some smoke for effect, cloth, candles and the help of some surfaces which have my favourite Pre-Raphaelite ?like colours and all sorts of distortion ideas.
The dark parts in this photo are meant to be placed there as this is what I wished, yet I do not know if it is friendly to the eye... A BIG thanx to Hugo de Wolf for the inspiration and advice! I devote this image to him.

awesome colours, the doll's face is gloomy and featureless.. yet brings some uneasy thoughts to mind of the spectator..

Mary, Love the poem, I like the colours in your photo, yes, it goes well with the poem. I have also been trying to get that classic look. All my best, James

Hi Mary, Your poem in combination with the photo is a very strong combination. Apart from it being very creative, the two enhance the atmosphere and the message I perceive. Reading your poem, the following lyrics by Queen come to mind immediately.

In the land where horses born with eagle wings
And honey bees have lost their stings
There's singing forever
Lion's den with fallow deer
And rivers made from wine so clear
Flow on and on forever
Dragons fly like sparrows thru' the air
And baby lambs where Samson dares
To go on on on on on on

My fairy king can see things He rules the air and turns the tides
That are not there for you and me Ohh yeah he guides the winds

My fairy king can do right and nothing wrong
Then came man to savage in the night
To run like thieves and to kill like knives
To take away the power from the magic hand
To bring about the ruin to the promised land

They turn the milk into sour
Like the blue in the blood of my veins
Why can't you see it
Fire burnin' in hell with the cry of screaming pain
Son of heaven set me free and let me go
Sea turn dry no salt from sand
Teeth don't shine like pearls for the poor man's eyes

Someone someone has drained the colour from my wings
Broken my fairy circle ring
And shamed the king in all his pride
Changed the winds and wronged the tides
Mother mercury mercury
Look what I cannot run I cannot hide

Qeen: My Fairy King.

Looking closely at the photo, the green shape attracts my foremost attention. The lighting on it emphasises the 3D structure, whilst leaving it completely abstract and irrecognisable. It creates a distance between surrounding and the doll. In contrast to the two previous Dooms Dollies, I think there is more information in this shot, leaving less to the imagination. For me, that removes a part of the tension in this shot.

Stefans remark about the X-processing tones and the sense of reality strikes gold, althoug I can also see the lack of reality in this, which creates a very strong uncomfortable feeling.

Again, a very creative series, where IMO, this one is the odd one out, but that doesn't mean it's of a lesser quality nor appeal. Very intriguing!

Thanks for devoting this photo to me.... The inspiration definately works both ways!

Cheers,

Hugo

I like the cross-processed look of these colors, the blurred foreground that lends a sense of reality, but most of all I like the balance of the illusion of this being real and merely in the land of pretend.

My Fairy King (Queen)

I thought I'd share this with you....

The utmost thing that attracts my attention is not so much the doll as well the green "foggy" shape. IMO, its a vital element in this shot, and well lit in order to create a three dimensional form and the feeling of depth within this scene. In all fairness, I think this composition is less challenging than the previous one, mainly because too much information is relayed about the origin of the forms, obscured in the previous ones.

Thanks for devoting this photo to me, very much appreciated!

Cheers,

Hugo
