About
Seems about time to update the About now that this has been around a while and has hit the 1,500 views mark.

Thank you to friends and associates, who have improved my work, changed my style, and have made me see the world through different eyes.

My hope is that the great photographers who do not post nearly enough find a way and the time to influence our lives a little more.

This is one of my first UF shots and I've changed a bit, so please take a look around and comment on something else...

Barn in Lenexa, KS, USA. Used Photoshop for a Dodge and Burn on the barn and sky. Converted from color image.

Hey, thanks lisa.

This is one of the original shots posted to usefilm. since then, I've had a show, improved a bit, moved to Denver, got my first home, etc... so much has changed in the last 5 years but my return to photography began again with this shot and my first digital - that D70.

Michael,

this is beautiful! Outstanding wide angle shot! It's interesting to see the color version, and then look back at the stunning B/W. The clouds are wild!

I love the haunting unknown of what's inside the barn, and the defensive windows. Very nicely captured!

well done, and once again, very well deserved awards! I need to start going deeper into people's portfolios to find gems like this!

cheers!

I like the way the clouds compliment the building. Neat place. The B&W really make the boards stand out. Wish I was there.

Mark:

There is another version, in color, with a composition that is a bit tighter.

Truly a spectacular scene. This is why I like the wide-angle lens for architectural subjects. The composition to me is a little bit sloppy. Why is the top of the barn roof cut off? The left border doesn't seem to have been given much attention. I would have terminated the left border on one of the corners of the rectangular shapes. This is an architectural subject, so I think you should pay more attention to the lines and where they terminate at the edges of the photograph. Your dodging and burning is excellent.

michael, beautiful shot! excellent job on the conversion. nice and sharp with contrast that jumps out at me. i can't "see" what you did with the masking but i can imagine. based on the intensity of the sunlight and clouds i can imagine that that the original exposure left the barn a bit dark. but you did a great job. this looks great!

i can't neglect the composition which is perfect imo. the tendency would be to include the tip of the barn roof (rules, rules, rules) but i like that you cut it off just a bit. it separates the dead space created by the cloudless portion of the sky. btw, i'd love to see the color version ;^)

take care,
tom

Wonderful image. I would love to see the corrected shot in monochrome. Funny how the bad weather brings out the best in our photography.

Cativating barn shot, Michael. I find the dark shadow in the hayloft opening balances nicely in opposition to the sky. Regards, Mister Ken

Excellent angle with great lighting which brings out the details in the wood. It's too bad you cut off the top of the barn. Keep up the good work.

Michael Kanemoto Michael Kanemoto   {K:22115} 8/24/2004
Thanks for the note that I cut off the tip of the barn. Funny, but when I took this yesterday I did not even notice. Unfortunately, the tornados came through last night and took the cloud cover out of the sky. I'll have to go back out when we have another warm to cold transition on the plains.

This is really a fantastic image, Michael! I love the textures of the old wood siding - beautifully brought out by the black-and-white treatment. The deep, dark sky punctuated by the clouds and beams of sunlight is awesome, too, if maybe just a little blown out. Excellent work!

What an angle!!
great view, minor detail is that the point of the roof is not in the pic..
Well done!
