About 'The Ear of Dionysos' is a cave in a limestone quarry in Syracusa, Sicily. The curved shape indeed bears some resemblance to an ear. It is still a mystery why one digged into the stone in this way.

Ha Hermen, Can't believe I've missed this one. I think it's fantastic! Especially the composition and the lighting. Even the overexposed part, struck by direct sunlight is very effective. The peeling paint adds a decaying element to the atmosphere, which makes the photo even stronger. Outstanding photo!

Cheers,

Hugo

Fabio - our guide told that it was unlikely that slaves have been kept imprisoned in the cave. But I am sure that if they have been, their whispering would have been heared... Every legend has a germ of truth :)

I like the extreme contrast in the photo. From very dark to direct sunlight. Good capture. The size of the people give a good impression of how huge these stones are. Good picture. Regards

isn't it famous, because you can hear a whisper onthe other side of the hill?? I read once, that under the rule of dionysos the great, the whispered plans to escape of slaves working in the limestone quarry were betrayed by this 'ear of (hence-) dionysos'
