About Great Sand Dunes National Monument (Now National Park) Shot with the intent of capturing foreground details against the wide expanse of the dunes. Wife as stand in for scale.

Used gradiant fiters to adjust the contrast and brightness (levels) of the sky and ground independantly. Slight push on saturation to make the image equivalent to film. Had to correct for an underrun of yellow.

Fantastic composition and colors, the variation of lighting on the dunes is splendid.

The person is my wife - she is shy about having her photo taken and just happened to be there. I took the photo because I thought the composition looked great.

She is intentionally darkened because she is shy, shy, shy.

You are the second person who seems to want to see an image of me. I have to work on that, I'm seeing a trend...

michael, great flow here! dig the way the patterns in the sand lead me to the trail of footsteps and eventually to the "walker" and the dunes behind. only suggestion i have is to maybe have the walker a bit further away. this would accentuate the size of the dunes. also, the "walker" (is it you, btw?) has taken "center stage" here and dominates the composition. i'm not sure if this was your intent but if it was then you nailed it. if not, then putting him further back in the dunes would balance the human and natural elements a bit more.

take care,
tom

Manuel:

Lighter clothes... Hmmm... If I actually planned my shots maybe I could have influenced the outcome. But actually, all of my photographs are just taken as travel photos while on vacation. So my wife is not really a model, she just happened to be there - and our clothing is just what we are wearing for outdoors - Columbia winter jackets and hiking shoes or hiking sandals, and other durable goods from the local thrift store.

Lighter clothing? Yeah - might work, but the dark against the sand does pop her out a bit.

Different position? She just happened to be there.

Great comments, keep suggesting - I may have to recruit her as a model!

Nice sense of space and distance. Great color and definition aslo. What would the shot look like with the model in lighter clothes or/and in a different position?
Its amazing what wivws have to do for their photgraphing husbands..!

Excellent perspective in this capture. The depth of field is perfect and the person adds a very nice focal point.

Nicely done. Once a person gets a decent wide angle its amazing what you can do with it.
This is a very good example of a well thought out photo.
