Philip, the tones and exposure are great! I am wondering if it would be more dramatic if your horizong where level!

I like the tilted angle, it lends to the movement of the clouds. You can remedy that noise problem by downloading a freeware program called Neat Image.

i actually like the tilt, ( isn't that where snow falls?... on the mountains???..) yer i think the tilt works, i think the market your hitting here are mostly youngish people who will think that's 'mad'.... rather than people that know much about 'photography' and it's supposed rules...... great work again phil.... and i can tell through your photos that you are really enjoying this.... keep it up... i look forward to them....... cheers kel p.s the noise in the sky doesn't bother me, it's not an issue for this photo i feel.... :):):)

Ah, I know what you mean about bare hands and sub-zero temperatures - it's always a rush to get the shot! I think the grad's two strong at the top of the image but because it's hand held it's not actually covered the brightest part of the image which is just above the horizon and as such it hasn't had the desired effect of reducing the dynamic range of the image and makes the sky look unnatural. Although it is dusk, a properly placed ND grad would brighten the foreground usefully and not darken the sky to the extent that this one has and would actually produce a more natural looking image. Anyway, it's easy to point these things out sat in my heated house with time on my side, I know only too well that in the heat (cold!) of the moment, it's rather more difficult. I can say from experience, having just realised that I underexposed almost every shot on my last roll of film by five stops cos I was distracted by my surroundings when I took the meter readings! The joys of being a photographer.

hey barry, thanks for your comments on my image, yeah it was a quick shot seeing that my hands were bare and touching a metal camera.... i also used the ND filter but was on the front of the camera, handheld P series coken filter because the lens is so wide i dont want to look at an image that looks like a gun barrel... the only photoshop work was color correction to make it look like what i remember, the grey color to the snow is because of sunset and it almost being dark, the snow being white would seem funky in my eyes... let me know what you think? thanks agian for your comments

Quite nice Phil. It looks a little soft, presumably it was a quick handheld shot? I'm not sure the tilt adds much and the ND grad's obviously been added in PS as it hasn't lightened the foreground which really needs to be about a stop brighter so that the snow looks white rather than grey. Great clouds though and the composition's strong.
