Thanks Peter, I have used Canon SLR's for years and this one is serving me very well but Im spending all my time taking pictures instead of on Usefilm! I have even managed some interesting shots of insects but with the kit lens and a +4 filter they are not as detailed and crisp as yours.

Congratulations with your new camera James! I'm sure you will not regret your choice for a canon .Your photo gives a good idea what dof in fact is. Somethimes different apertures give also a bit different colortones and light.

Hi, the depth of field in a image is controlled mainly by aperture. It controls the amount of the image in sharp focus. A high aperture such as f22 is actually a small hole and this will render more in focus than say a small aperture like f4 which is a big hole! This is a very basic description and several other factors are taken into account when you get involved such as focal length of the lens, distance between lens and object and where in the image your point of focus is. Have fun experimenting.
