hi sam.... well i've been to amsterdam and i agree that it is indeed bike friendly like o other place. however, with cars, trucks, buses, trams, and pedestrians, you really need to keep yoiur eyes open there.
as for your photo, i think you could have done better with the lighting if you had shot the photo a bit earlier in te evening, when there's perhaps the last light of day showing. it just seems to me that a lot of beautiful detail has been lost in the darkness. i've done plenty of night shots of hong kong and found that if i waited too long the sky just lost all its colour and the results overall were vastly improved when i shoot at 6:30 in the evening as opposed to 8:00. alternatively, a longer shutter speed might do it.
i think the same could be said of your other photo of the same bridge.

This terrific night shot shows Amsterdam as a vital, thriving city. The slow shutter worked well to benefit from the lights sparkling on the water but also allow the sky to look so deep blue.
I've enjoyed your portfolio. My favorite image is the bio shot of you painting with your handsome dog in the background! It reminds me of our childhood pet dalmation, probably the only short fat dalmation in history! I hope Ezra brings you as much joy as our dog did for us.

That's exactly how it went... I cropped the bycicle out of the picture, but after a second look i noticed it added a lot of perspective to the image. So i decided to use the tytle to force the eye to go from left to right and from close to far.

This is a very beautiful scene, I think I'd include it in night photography as well. I love the lighting, and the beautiful expanse of water that leads the eye into the rest of this excellently composed image. The colors of those reflections on the water are absolutely delightful. I also appreciate the history you gave us on this very interesting place...:) Linda
