Edina,
The upper left image is slightly underexposed, If you were trying to capture detail on the moon, you need a longer lens, too. But I assume you were going for a mood, which the other three captures seem to underscore, then this image seems out of place to me.

Oze,
Since you give few details on how the image was taken, it is difficult to give constructive criticism, but here are a few thoughts. Shots of the moon really benifit from long folcal length. Longer focal lengths make a tripod very useful to steady the camera. Autofocus usually fails on targets such as the moon, best to focus manually, if it is not accurate.

Blaine,
Did you try to mount the camera on a tripod or an afocal camera mount. At such high magnification, any movement of the camera translates to a blurred image. Also, the little nick in the bottom leads me to suspect that the image was taken with the moon low in the sky, where atmospheric turbulence is at its worst. Good attempt, but with a little more patience, you can improve your results dramatically.

Nice capteure. Great contrast and sharpness. Try the same with the moon near a quarter phase to get more shadow details.

This is a pleasing image, but it could be more dramatic with a longer focal length lens to enlarge the moon...

I would have chosen a wider aperture to keep all the branches sharp in this kind of a shot. A nice composition. A lovely shade of blue.

Stefan,
Nice images. It would have been nicer to see the whole glass... but that is just probably my preference for a square image.
For noise, try the following: shot an image, then shoot the same settings but with the lens covered (lens cap) as a dark frame. Multiple dark frames averaged are better. Then subtract the dark frame from your image. This should help reduce digital noise. This is a processing technique used in CCD astroimaging.

Benjamin,
I think this scene is screaming to fill the lens. At this exposure there is nothing of interest in the upper or lower thirds of the photo. You need to get closer on this image. We can't see what sort of characters inhabit this scene, just that they're there.

Benjamin,
I would have stopped the lens a bit more and gone with a longer exposure. I just don't know how long the Coolpix5000 could go. When I shoot "car trails" I usually like to go for about 30 sec at a small aperture, and focus on the lanes moving away, so the taillights paint long paths across the film.

Benjamin,
These are on my roof in the East Village. I had just purchased the Apotessar on an auction site and was testing the lens. Even though I plan on using the lens mostly at infinity, I wanted to make sure that there were no problems at near focus.

Nicola,
Sorry for not commenting sooner, I missed this shot... I like the interesting way you set up the foreground for this shot. And the sky color is relatively dark. Nice work.
As for "these shots were much better than my astrophotography", they ARE your astrophotography! If I get a keeper for every 12 exposures I take, I'm happy. If I get more than one keeper on a roll of film, then I know I made a mistake someplace...

Black (red) to move in the Ruy Lopez! I think the piece would be stronger with the model (your wife) behind the red pieces, but other than that, the vibrant colors of the chessmen really contrast with the well worn board. Nice photo.
