Excellent choice for the project. Background colors emphasize the in focus subject..

I like the photo in terms of composition and subject. I always enjoy seeing everyday objects shown in unique ways.
There is also something about this picture that I can't put my finger on. Perhaps it's the fact that there is no obvious support for the ornament. Has any post processing been done on this photo?
I've enjoyed looking at your photos as they have given me ideas on what to shoot in my own "back yard."

The comp is very good as is the focus. i think the problem is that besides possibly not being the most interesting of subjects possibly, the subject and BG are a bit too similar in brightness and contrast so the glass figure doesn't really stand out.

John, I think you nailed this one, but comparing it against some of your other macros which blown my mind, this one is good but not great. The detail is there, and the DOF is a great choice, but the inner fire isn't there. You know, the thing in the image that makes me stop and go "WOW!" in which I have done for many of your other images. Not sure if bouncing some light into the hummingbird would accomplish that, or if I am wanting something that can't be done. The tinsel in the background under the beak is also a hotspot of light, in which I would rather all the light be in the hummingbird itself. I have tried to explain, maybe not that well, but I think you get what I'm trying to say. This may not be worth your while to try again, or maybe nothing can be changed, but as I said before, this is a good shot and I like it.

Thanks Kim and Toni. Two very interesting comments.
Kim; You say the detail is superb (not bad for hand held at a twentieth, eh?), but imply that something else bothers you about the photograph. Please. What is it?
Toni; (I don't know how much I know anymore.) What's that? You know what makes you smile. You know everything that's really important to know.

John, I think it is quite beautiful, but I don't know how much I know anymore. Anyway, it pleases me, gave me a smile.

The detail in this image is superb... the hummingbird stands out nicely from the tree branches and has its own inner glow. Maybe not your best image, but a creative take on a hummingbird!
