Ja die wonderlijke pluizebollen zijn fascinerend. Dit is voor mij het 2e jaar dat ik de verschilende transformaties van dit "onkruid" probeer vast te leggen. Overigens als kruid is dit ook een geweldig plantje. Uiteindelijk komen er zo'n 6 fases in een lijstje om de keuken te verfraaien.

Hi Lydia,
It is a formidable camera with lots of possibilities, but that is why it is such a great tool. From the way you react, I am convinced that you approach with the right attitude and will succeed in mastering this excellent tool.
Regard to it as a nice tool, nothing more and nothing less. Try to learn step by step. Starting with learning how the mainline of the menu structure is organised. Focus on the essentials like: iso, aperture (F-factor or diafragma or size of the lensopening) and shuttertime (the time you allow lightreflection through your chosen size of lensopening).
The large the size of lensopening, the more shallow DOF will be, which can take subject away
form background and focuses the attention to the subject.
The mm's of reach of your lens demand a minimum shuttertime speed, if you shoot by hand. For example 35 mm digital can be done with minimum of 1/60 s shuttertime. If lightconditions demand a longer shuttertime a tripod is adviced.
For 200 mm lens I use minimum of 1/250 shooting by hand.
The lower the iso value the less noise in your pictures, but the more clear light you need.
So it's all about combinations of values of iso, diafragma and shuttertime and lightconditions in reality.
Wish you lots of success and learning pleasure, sometimes it seems like a struggle but finally you will experience great satisfaction and pleasure when you are able to predict the results, more or less.

Hi Albert - thanks for your comments - I've come across Joggie's works of art, yes, he's the one who inspired me to buy the D200, in fact. It's a rather complicated, or should I say, formidable, camera, but I refuse to be intimidated by all the features and menus - I'll manage eventually, I'm sure.

That's all just a matter of time and patience. I don't know if you are familiair with the work of Joggie van Staden. He works with a D200 and is to my opinion a great photographer. I admire his work. He's lives in your country and he also presents a basic course photography with an attitude I do admire. Maybe a tip that can help you further.

Hi Lydia,
I took a quick look on your portfolio and must say you don't seem to be such a novice in photography (lol). You show some nice shots and I will visit them again for closer look and comment.
I am not so up with alle the digital innovations, so I don't know about the possibilities of the camera you use.
I use a Nikon D100 digital reflexcamera. The advantage of a reflexcamera is that you can switch the objectives (lenses). One of the objectives I use much is a real macro, a Voigtlander 100 mm. This lens is not comparable with a 100 mm teleobjective. A macro is specially made to shoot details.
A modern tele-zoom-objective has most of the time a macro position. My Sigma 18-200 mm has a macro effect on 200 mm position. With this position I can shoot from a distance of 45 cm or larger between subject and camera.
So this last called macro function is the result of the construction of the objective that consists of more lenses (oft between 4 till 8).
The way they are build in the objective and the way the lenses were made bring the specific photography possibilities.
By each of my photos you find the objective that I used and most of the time also the distance in mm and the aperture opening (F) and shutter (x/x seconds).
The combination of these factors influence the DOF you realise in the photo, an aspect that I find very interesting to experiment with for the final result view (atmosphere, subject versus background, focus on subject etc).
Hope I offered you some points to "attack" for further learning.
Must say if you are a novice to photography, your portfolio shows talent/feeling for it. So please go on and you will discover a new world that fascinates you more, the more you know of it.

I always see them on my front garden but never appreciated their beauty till now!Sure you didnt blow them first before taking this shot thats why most of its fur is gone:).there is a saying that blow a dandelion once and if you manage to blow off all the fur then ur wish will be granted seem to me you didnt get the wish:) but hey you have presented one real good shot!
