During dark moonless winter nights black sharks, or velvet bellys as they are also called, emerge from the deep to hunt krill swarm at medium depths of 40-60m. The sharks themselves usually found between 200-2000m are only observable at theese shallow depths in the subarctic waters of the Norwegian fjords. The catlike eye is an adaptation used to hunt krill and small fish at great depths where light is very limited.
I use several cameras but to date have only used Ikelite underwater housings. They are good down to 60m. Subtronic and Ikelite add light to my creations. How to get close? Rebreather....
Thanks Bob, Phillip and Brendon for the nice comments. Espen ;-)
Awesome shot Espen! Welcome to Usefilm. I have been telling everyone around here that I would do my best to get some of the really inspiring underwater shooters to post some images in here.
Thanks for joining and I look forward to your future posts!
Fantastic, how in the world did you get this close?!? What kind of housing are you using for the N90 and what kind of strobes? I do some underwater stuff with a Nikonos, but it is nothing compared to the stuff on your site, absolutely amazing Welcome to USEFILM and please post some more.
