About This one did not make the cut in the first round of selection. But reprocessed using HDR it sprang to life.

As usual, serious critiques are encouraged!

Wow, stunning shot. I love all the shapes and patterns created by these. The HDR has created a very moody looking sky creating a great atmosphere in the shot.

Beautiful shot AJ... and I LOVE a lot here the colors, and how the sunlight makes the bridges and the buildings looks like gold against the deep cloudy sky, very nice multi-line composition too.

Thanks Bryan. The range of opinions on this is quite entertaining (though not unexpected) - thanks for being on the thumbs-up side!

Thanks Gary. Interesting observation - the sky has not been treated any differently from the rest of the image. But in the original version it is very flat and the clouds are hardly visible.

Thanks Susie. And it's exactly that - the light and lines - that I felt were lacking in the "normally" processed version.

Thanks Tony. Funny thing is I initially preferred this to Chrysler, but decided to post Chrysler first. This one has generated much more diverse opinion.

ive been attempting the HDR process.. it has proved to be a real challenge for me, and i have come nowhere near to the dramatic beautiful image here. this is really stunning.. would put this up on my wall.. it really is quite nice..!

Hi AJ... I kinda like this one... the "busy-ness" of it all. To me it rather looks like you've used some sort of grad filter as the sky just doesn't quite seem to match up with the lower portion (but that's probably just some optical illusion). All in all a decent shot in my humble (or is that honest?!) opinion... Cheers, Gary

I have yet to try HDR so can't comment one way or the other but I do love the light and lines AJ ~ keep up the experimenting then I can ask you for advice when I get around to trying it :)

Thanks Gary. You have identified exactly what caught my eye in this - I rather like the "painted" effect. But I am well aware that it is not to everyone's taste, and I have read in various places that those new to HDR tend to overdo the effect in their early dabblings.

It's not as good as the Chrysler shot (but then that's a beaut), but I kind of like the softness here, it has a painting-like quality that looks OK to me. As for oversaturated, well, we've all seen much worse.
Regards, Gary

Just made the Chrysler shot a favourite. This one lacks the crispness and subtle tones of the other.
Keep on experimenting, Tony

Over saturated attention seeking? Wow, that's quite tough! I do agree that it is not "true" HDR in that it was derived from a single image, but it was created using a true HDR procedure. Thanks for your opinion, Riny - we will miss you here.

I am SOOOOOO sorry JD I've just remembered that Doug is the Sunset Man......put it down to my advancing years and a touch of senility, perhaps even more than a touch JD . Retires from the stage with a seriously red face.
All the best to you AJ and to you too JD......Ray

AJ,I agree with Txules this not true HDR,just over saturated attention seeking...this is a personal tast..I think that maybe the saturation is a bit intense - though I can't say for sure without seeing the original..... ;) keep up the good work AJ.

Thanks Ray - I appreciate your opinion, even if you are only a "novice"! I think this one is likely to generate more love/hate reactions than the previous one because of the style. And on the subject of blurriness, I have checked the original and it does indeed look fine. (But I am of course grateful when such things are pointed out, so that I can check that everything is OK and make improvements where necessary.)

I can't agree with Doug on this. I think the detailing in the bridge is crisply sharp and the clarity as clear as you could hope for. The blurriness comes about from the criss-crossing of elements in the railings on the bridgework. I love too the lighting that comes about from your postwork creativity AJ, there is something surreal about it that I personally like a lot. I think that your technique has produced a rich and powerful composition but I have to bow to you and Doug's prowess in an area of photography/photoart that I have absolutely no knowledge of. I have only been taking photos for about 55 years now, so it's early days and there may be hope for me yet . Well done to you my friend, I love it. All the very best.......Ray

Thanks JD. I had not spotted the blurring and noise - I must go and check the processing again as I should have been able to avoid this. As regards the over-saturation, yes, I am aware that newcomers to HDR tend to overdo this, but I had to get it out of my system! As you say, it's largely a matter of taste, but I promise I won't upload too many of this style...

Hi AJ, this does not work so well, details on the bridge are a bit bluured and shadows are quite noisy (one of the problems of HDR images); the other thing is the unreal light and tone, and although this is a personal taste I find that HDR are oversaturated (I have many examples of this in my folio:); many times I find more realistic convert them into pure BW or toned
my very best....txules
