About shot as is in camera - we were out picking edible mushrooms here on the island, it's an absolutely amazing season for them here & i found these little guys growing out of an old decaying log in the woods. They're only about 4 mm high & i was so surprised my camera would capture them in this light. There really is beauty where ever we look! All comments welcome - thanks.

Great depth of field control and the indirect light is lovely.

Hi Jennifer,
You got the close ups and I got the wide-angle shots. The hike was well covered. I love the feel of this image. It is similar to Old Dutch master paintings with the dark background and the subject coming forward to greet my eye. Then the addition of the contemporary composition makes this an intriguing and very interesting photo.

Cheers, Tim

Beautiful capture- well done! Love the extreemly narrow dof. Hmmm... a little garlic and olive oil.....

Walking in the damp forest... stopping... looking in wonderment...

Can we... should we... pick... is it edible...

Ahhhh let's capture and share the results...

Wonderful done... presented!

Nice, can't help think of Alice in Wonderland, and the catepillar puffing away. This has very much a feel of the forest with the darkness surrounding the mushrooms. I can see bugs crawling, and birds crying out over head. Wonderful dof and colors~

Hi Jennifer - great shot, the DOF and darkness really does create a sense of mystery, and I think Craig has put his finger on why these things have so much inherent "mysteriousness"!

Hi Jennifer; this is an excellent example of shallow DOF and also composition. It works perfectly here with just two parts of the MR in focus. The softness, and even the digital noise also work well in this composition-- and the dark BG is perfect for this pair. I shoot MRs all the time too (Oregon Coast) and feel they have a sort of well deserved reputation for "mysteriousness "as some are toxic yet others wonderfully edible. Ver nice shot-- thanks for posting it. Cheers. Craig
